What has been the most positive development and an absolute Godsend for nude recreation in the past decade? Without a doubt the Internet. And that tool has become even more important, downright vital in this awful economy......Did Godiva just state the obvious?
The answer is "yes." So what does that mean to nude and clothing optional resort owners and nudist travel and tour companies? Everything.
The American Association for Nude Recreation www.aanr.com, The Naturist Society www.naturistsociety.com often cite ever rising figures stating that nude recreation constitutes a $400 million industry in the prudish United States alone.....Bet ya that number isn't true in 2009. Spending hard-earned and in many cases declining dollars on nude vacations is getting harder to justify, particularly since 20 percent of the country is either unemployed or underemployed.
What that means is that some nudist resorts and travel agencies may not make it out of 2009 intact. What may be a differentiating factor between success and failure? One factor certainly will be bargains or the promotion of value.....more bang for the buck. Another will be marketing, making a resort or cruise as attractive as possible to nudists....and the web is vital to making this happen.
Some resorts and agencies have already decided that they intend to play for keeps as they have seriously upgraded their websites to enhance their appeal. One of the keys is to actually use photos of attractive nude people because whether nudists want to admit it or not, sex sells.
This factor causes a huge debate among the leaders of nudist or naturist organizations. Isn't the freedom to nude supposed to be non-sexual, wholesome family recreation? It can be, but even in that narrowly defined definition it is still downright fun and sensual to be nude among attractive naked people of both sexes.
Spending any amount of time on nudist resort and travel agency websites, the reader (viewer) will be treated to images of very attractive nude people, mainly females. This makes sense because the female of the species commands the more interesting body of the two genders, and it is a must in order to draw female attention. Did Godiva just say using females to attract females?
Yep. Men wanting to be naked is not simple, but it is much easier. Selling nude recreation to women is tougher for a wide variety of issues that Godiva has already covered in previous weblogs. Women don't want to be intimidated by Playboy-style models, but they do want women to be present.....better yet, women in romantic, sexy and fun situations. The success of a nudist resort or cruise lies with the women, not the men.
With all these considerations intact, then what are some of the best nude resort and travel agency websites....the ones that provide real insights into resorts and cruises but also portray sensual nudity?
One site that immediately comes to mind is the ultra-controversial Caliente Resorts www.calienteresorts.com in Tampa and the Dominican Republic. The opening photo features two obvious ultra-beautiful models wearing clothes for the most part, but then it shifts to photo after photo of tasteful nudity.
Another impressive site is offered by the swinger....err lifestyles....oriented Desire Resorts in Cancun and Los Cabos in Mexico www.desireresorts.com with emphasis on playful nude couples.
The best of the travel industry sites in Godiva's humble estimation is the nude-cruise oriented Bare Necessities Tour and Travel www.barenecessities.com, which is mainly devoted to information about upcoming cruises but also includes feature resorts, such as Club Orient in St. Martin.
And speaking of Club Orient, the resort deserves the award for the most improved website with its catchy trademarked tag line "where nothing....is everything." www.cluborient.com
Some decent, but not really outstanding sites that could benefit from redesigns that others have undertaken include Hidden Beach Resort in Mexico www.hiddenbeachresort.com; Castaways Travel in Texas www.castawaystravel.com; Internaturally Travel of New Jersey www.internaturally.com; Paradise Lakes Resort in Florida www.paradiselakesresort.com and Desert Sun Resort in Palm Springs, CA www.desertsunresort.com.
Which brings us to the last question of this exercise: Which sites have always sucked and continue to suck? One leading offender is Cypress Cove Resort in Florida www.cypresscoveresort.com, which discovered the Internet in the 1990s and forgot that the 21st Century began nine years ago.
The most horrendous website belongs to Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs www.sunnyfun.com . Hide the women and children when you surf this one....and its news clip from 1999....that's right last century...and small uninteresting fuzzy photos.....(A clothing optional resort with uninteresting photos?)
What is really mystifying is that TCI owner Tom Mulhall maintains a super blog www.terracottainn.blogspot.com including very attractive nude photos of his wife Mary Clare....but he will not upgrade the resort's main website. Strange, very strange indeed.
