Imagine one day each year -- say the second Friday in August -- this year it falls on 8-8-08 -- in which everyone and that means everyone would have to go nude in public for the day?
Stay with me here....I know this is a dream and totally impractical...but so what? What if going clothes free was not encouraged, but actually mandated? We would all know months in advance that the second Friday of the last summer month of the year was National Nude Day, and we would have to prepare for it.
If you think that same-sex marriage, Roe vs. Wade and John Edwards' love life are controversial, try this one out. Would there be exemptions and would thousands be clamoring for one reason or another to be exempted? Would politicians start declaring from the rooftops that America is going in the direction of Ancient Rome? You could bet on that and more.
Let's come back to the point....What if (probably two of the most interesting words in the Lingua Franca) we had to tend to our business or pleasure only in our birthday suits? Most people would be terrified. Why? For moral reasons? Definitedly some. How about body image reasons? Probably the majority.
Certainly there are some with Barbie and Ken bodies that would get into showing it all off and would dig National Nude Day, even if they say the opposite.
But if rest of us knew that we had to be publicly nude for a day and just one day....and we had months to get ready....well what would we do? You can't hide your body, your vessel, with clothes that day. You can't sit it out. So you would have to prepare....and that means exercise and good diet. National Nude Day would be great for 24-hour fitness joints, organic food, fruits and vegetable providers, stamina, overall fitness and well being.
It would be a celebration of humanity. Of course, you would look and naturally they would look at you in return. Would it be sexual with a big "S" or a little "s"? Would National Nude Day be utopia? Would Darwin look down on the events of this day and smile? Probably not....but a little dreaming never hurt anyone.
